27th Oct Laramah and Bitter Springs Mataranka

Bitter Springs Mataranka is in the national park and you can float with the current for about 500 metres in the thermal waters.
Are you sure there are no crocs in here ?

Pink panther pub in Laramah was a spooky place to visit. We were sure you could hear banjo's
playing out the back of this place

We went in to order the scones and coffee. Thank heavens they had not baked any that day.
Bought a cool drink. looked at some of the birds and snakes and got out quick.

26th Oct Daly Waters

Camped the night here at the back of the pub. $5 per person, cheap as. Tried the Beef and Barra.
Crazy signs, Tee shirts, bra's, stickers, business cards etc were stuck everywhere inside.

This would have confused some of the back packers for sure !

Found room for a couple of DERT Racing stickers. Look them up when you visit this place.

25th Oct Barkley Homestead

Fixed for now Liz!!!
It was there this morning ????

Camped the night here. Pretty warm so went for a swim in the pool. Very nice. Camp was over run with ants. A Japanese guy was riding his bicycle from Cairns to Ayers rock. Crazy but amazing. It was enough of a challenge just sitting in the car with the air-con running.

23rd & 24th Oct. Adels grove Lawn hill

This place is an oasis with shady trees covering the campground and water you can swim in. Went for a canoe up the gorge for a swim under the falls. Then did a walk trail to see the Aboriginal art on the rocks. Slept well that night.

21st & 22nd Oct. Karumba

Had to have a beer in here

On to Karumba where Sandy used to fish. It bucketed down just after setting up camp. It seems to be following us. Sussed out where to buy the prawns couldn't wait for dinner so had them for lunch. Yumm. Had dinner at the bar overlooking the water with amazing sunset.

Had a drink at the animal bar. Wasn't Thommo banned from there?

19th & 20th Oct. Undara Lava tubes.

The Lava tubes are amazing. They are formed when lava 1200 degrees hot cools on the outside then keeps flowing to make tubes. Undara has walks and is set up with camping grounds and train carriages as accommodation.

17th & 18th Oct. Kuranda

Kuranda is a beautiful town with fantastic markets on every day. Then Neil decides we are doing the skyrail. You know I hate heights right? Come on it'll be fun. This is the Barron falls when I calmed down I could actually look out the windows. Sheer terror going over the trees. See in the background of picture above is the train I should have caught.

Once I got of the feeling of throwing up we got a picture. I still look a bit sick. Neil of course loved it.

We took a drive up to Port Douglas another nice town. Cairns has grown a lot in 27 years.

I'm still on the lookout for furry rodents (a tree kangaroo would be nice) but the only one I can find wakes up next to me in the camper.

Up to Thursday Island and back down the Cape

No cleaning at the caravan park allowed as most were on water restrictions. The trailer was worse.
Several mud holes were hit after the rain started. Mud everywhere.

Very still conditions on the ocean on the trip over to the Islands

In the main street after a counter lunch at the pub. A quick snooze before the ferry trip home.

Standing on the tip of Aus.

This was on the back of the official marker post for the tip.
PIES IN CRISIS ????? If I had a marker it would have been changed to PIES Premiers 2010.
Aint no crisis.

Rowles Rotten Tours made it to the top. Took a while to work out the camera timer to get this shot.

Just had to do it.

As far as the car could get near the tip. Notice the numbers plates. PIES.

Up to the Cape

Made it up to the Cape and set up camp at Seisia. The beach was only 50 metres away and looked great.Only problem was a croc was spotted there not long ago so a swim was out of the question.
Fruit bat falls on the Telelgraph road was a good spot to cool off. No crocs.

Some crocs.

At peace with nature once again. Where's my waterproof book ??

Searched Queensland for some new orange crocs. None here either.

Cooktown

Cooktown main street at peak hour. Some tourists we met along the trip told us not to bother visiting this town. We liked it that much we stayed an extra day. The museum there actually had Captain Cook's anchor off the Endeavor and a cannon.
Falls on the way to Cooktown

Daintree Area

Typical day with the clouds rolling over the mountains. This one was at the ice cream factory.
Had to sample their products.
Could'nt get any closer to the forrest

Done all walk trails rain or shine.

In search of the Platypus

Up to the tablelands to look for the elusive platypus
The town have erected special viewing areas. None here though ?? We had to explore up the creek more.

Bingo !!!! Spotted one playing in the middle of the creek.

Liz was very happy that we had finally found one in the wild. Strange place to put a sign ?

Paronella Park

Paronella Park was built by an Italian to impress his missus.
Water features
Castles and tennis courts The castle only was a replica and the rooms were too small to live in.He built a ballroom off the castle but it burnt down

Eating areas by the waterfalls.
Most of it has been attacked by concrete cancer and needs $$$$ to fix up.

These stairs lead down to the waterfall picnic area.
